Males and females aged 9 or above may receive the vaccine.

Suitable for:

Adolescents — recommended vaccination age: 9–14 years old

Even if you have already had sexual activity, vaccination may still help protect against HPV types that you have not yet acquired. The Centre for Health Protection in Hong Kong prioritises HPV vaccination for individuals aged 26 or below.

Individuals who have not had sexual experience
Those who have not been exposed to HPV may benefit most from vaccination, as it can provide strong protection against vaccine-covered HPV types before exposure.

Individuals who have had sexual activity
Vaccination may still help protect against HPV types that have not yet been acquired and reduce the risk of new HPV infections.
HPV vaccines have been administered to over 100 million people worldwide and have a good safety record. Common mild side effects may include:

Redness, swelling or pain at the injection site

Mild fever or tiredness

Headache or muscle pain, which usually subside within 1–2 days

Severe allergic reactions are extremely rare. You will be observed for 15 minutes after vaccination to ensure safety.
You may eat as usual before vaccination.

If you feel unwell on the day of vaccination, such as having a fever or infection, vaccination should be postponed.

Individuals who have already been infected with HPV may still receive the vaccine to help protect against other HPV types.

Current research shows that HPV vaccines can provide protection for at least 10 years, with long-term studies still ongoing. Existing data suggest that the protection is long-lasting, and booster doses may not be required in many cases.
