Boostrix Vaccine
What is Boostrix?
Boostrix is a booster shot that protects against three diseases: pertussis (whooping cough), diphtheria, and tetanus. It’s a Tdap vaccine given as a single 0.5 mL injection in the upper arm.
Boostrix during pregnancy
Newborns are highly vulnerable to whooping cough before they get their routine shots. Getting Boostrix while pregnant passes protective antibodies to the baby through the placenta, shielding them in the first few months of life. In Hong Kong, one dose is recommended in every pregnancy—no matter your vaccination or infection history. The ideal timing is the second or third trimester, preferably before 35 weeks.
