• Uncertain vaccination records – if you're not sure about past diphtheria, tetanus, or pertussis shots, bring any records you have. Your doctor will recommend the right vaccine and number of doses based on your situation.
• Healthcare and childcare workers – if you work with infants, children, or high-risk patients, talk to a healthcare professional about your vaccination status.

Precautions
Tell your healthcare provider about allergies, medical conditions, medications, pregnancy, or past vaccine reactions.

Boostrix may not be right for you if you:

• Had a severe allergic reaction to Boostrix, its ingredients, or any diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis vaccine.
• Had unexplained encephalopathy within 7 days of a pertussis shot.
• Had neurological problems or low platelets after a diphtheria/tetanus vaccine.
• Have a high fever or severe illness (a mild cold without fever is fine).
• Have a bleeding disorder, low platelets, or take blood thinners.
• Have a weakened immune system or take immunosuppressants.
• Have fainted after a shot before.
• Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy.

If you have a fever or severe illness, wait until you recover. Minor illness without fever is usually okay.

Side effects
Common reactions (usually mild and short-lived):

• Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
• Tiredness, headache, dizziness, nausea
• Low-grade fever

Rarely, serious allergic reactions can occur. Seek emergency care if you have trouble breathing, facial/tongue swelling, hives, collapse, or seizures.

Keep in mind: Boostrix may not fully protect everyone, and protection varies.
