Gardasil 9 HPV Vaccine — 1 Dose

HPV infection is common among both men and women who have been sexually active. Some types of HPV may increase the risk of certain cancers and other HPV-related conditions.

In women, HPV infection may be associated with cervical cancer and vulval cancer. Cervical cancer has also been seen in younger age groups in recent years, with many cases occurring before the age of 55.

In men, HPV infection may be associated with anal cancer, genital warts, penile cancer and certain head and neck cancers, including oropharyngeal, laryngeal, oral and tongue cancers.

HPV vaccination, also known as cervical cancer vaccination, helps the body develop antibodies against HPV and supports protection against HPV-related diseases in both men and women.

The 9-valent HPV vaccine, also known as Gardasil 9, is a widely used HPV vaccine that provides broader coverage against HPV types. It is recognised by the Hong Kong Department of Health, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and a number of international health authorities.

This vaccine helps protect against 9 high-risk and low-risk HPV types, and may help reduce the risk of several HPV-related cancers and genital warts.

  • HPV vaccination is suitable for males and females aged 9 or above.

    Suitable groups include:

    Adolescents

    Recommended age: 9–14 years

Vaccination before adolescence may produce a stronger immune response and is ideally given before the start of sexual activity.

    Young people and adults

    Aged 15 or above

Even after sexual activity has begun, vaccination may still help protect against HPV types that the individual has not yet been exposed to.

The Centre for Health Protection in Hong Kong recommends priority vaccination for individuals aged 26 or below.

Individuals who have not had sexual intercourse

Those who have not been exposed to HPV may benefit most from vaccination, as protection is generally strongest before exposure.

Individuals who have had sexual intercourse

Vaccination may still help protect against HPV types that have not yet been acquired and may reduce the risk of future infection with additional HPV types.
