FDA Pre-embryo Transport Testing

FDA Pre-embryo Transport Testing is designed for individuals who need infectious disease screening before transporting embryos, eggs or sperm samples to the United States.

To support the smooth entry of embryos, oocytes or sperm samples into the United States, the receiving process usually requires an infectious disease screening report issued within 14 days of the relevant shipment or transfer arrangement.

Seed Medical provides a one-stop solution, including blood draw and urine sample collection in Hong Kong, international sample transport to a US laboratory, and official English reports sent directly to your fertility centre where required.

The service is designed to support international IVF arrangements, embryo transfer, PGT testing or cryopreservation planning in a safe, organised and compliant manner.

T. pallidum IgG — Syphilis, with reflex to RPR — Treponema pallidum antibody test

Cytomegalovirus — CMV Total, FDA, with reflex to IgM / IgG

HBcAb Total, FDA, with reflex to IgM — Hepatitis B core total antibody

HBsAg, FDA, with reflex to HBV DNA Quant — Hepatitis B surface antigen, with reflex testing where indicated

Complete the process in 4 simple steps

1. Book sample collection

Blood and urine samples are collected at Seed Medical. Fasting is not required.

2. Sample shipment to the United States

Samples and relevant documents are arranged and shipped to a US laboratory for testing.

3. US laboratory testing

Testing is performed by the US laboratory team in line with the relevant FDA donor screening requirements.

4. Report delivery

The official English report is usually issued by the US laboratory within approximately 10 working days.

Seed Medical can assist in sending the report by email to your designated IVF clinic for subsequent embryo transfer, PGT genetic testing or related fertility treatment arrangements.
The fee is HK$6,500, including:

Please arrange the test according to your expected embryo transfer or shipment timeline.

If you are aware that you carry an infectious disease, such as hepatitis B or hepatitis C, please inform both your US fertility centre and Seed Medical in advance.

Recent vaccination may cause temporary false-positive results for certain tests. If you have recently received any vaccination, please inform healthcare professionals before blood collection.
Q1: Do both my partner and I need to undergo the test?

Yes. If the embryo is created using sperm and eggs from both partners, both the sperm provider and egg provider will usually need to undergo the screening.

If a third-party donor is involved, the donor will also be required to complete the relevant screening.

Q2: Do I need to fast before the test?

No. This test mainly involves infectious disease screening, and fasting is generally not required. You may eat as usual before the test.

Q3: If I have already completed some test items elsewhere, can I only do the remaining items?

In most cases, the receiving party in the United States will require a complete FDA Panel report with consistent report dates.

To reduce the risk of rejection due to inconsistent report dates or different testing standards, it is strongly recommended to complete all required FDA Panel items at the same institution in one arrangement.
