FibroScan® Liver Fibrosis Assessment

Fatty liver may, in some cases, progress to more serious liver conditions, such as liver fibrosis, cirrhosis or liver cancer.

When the liver becomes inflamed, regardless of the underlying cause, fibrous tissue may gradually form as part of the healing response. The liver contains Kupffer cells, a type of macrophage, which help clear damaged tissue and support the liver’s repair process.

However, if inflammation persists for a long time or becomes severe, fibrous tissue may continue to accumulate. Over time, this may increase the risk of liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and other serious liver-related complications.

A FibroScan® liver fibrosis assessment is a non-invasive examination that helps assess liver stiffness and fatty changes in the liver, supporting the evaluation of liver fibrosis and fatty liver risk.

  • This examination may be suitable for:

    • Individuals with chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C
    • People living with HIV
    • Individuals with high blood pressure or high cholesterol
    • Individuals with long-term liver disease
    • Individuals with diabetes

    • Individuals with alcohol-related liver disease
