Blood Test

Fasting for 6–8 hours is required before the blood test.

Bone Mineral Density Test

• Please stop taking calcium supplements one day before the test.
• Please avoid X-ray scans with contrast injection within two days before the test.
• Please avoid nuclear scans or barium meal X-ray examinations within one week before the test.

Before Resting ECG

On the day of the test, please avoid applying body lotion, antiperspirant or talcum powder to the upper body.

Stool Test

You may collect a stool sample container from our centre one day before your appointment and collect the sample at home. Alternatively, you may collect the container on the day of your appointment and return the stool sample on the same day, or submit it to our centre afterwards.

The stool sample must be returned to our centre within 24 hours after collection.

How to Collect a Stool Sample

You may place a rubbish bag or cling film over the toilet bowl and secure it with adhesive tape before lowering the toilet seat and passing stool.

Collect a stool sample approximately the size of a peanut. Please avoid contaminating the sample with urine, toilet water, tissue paper or other substances, as this may affect the test result.

• Reports are usually available within approximately 3–5 working days.

Q1: Why is faecal occult blood testing particularly important for older adults?

A: As people age, the risk of colorectal cancer and bowel polyps increases. A faecal occult blood test is a non-invasive screening test that can detect small amounts of blood in the stool that may not be visible to the naked eye. This may help identify potential bowel abnormalities at an earlier stage.

Q2: Older adults often complain of general bone or joint pain. Can this health check help?

A: Yes. Joint and bone pain in older adults may have different underlying causes, and symptoms can sometimes be difficult to distinguish.

This package includes:

• Uric acid test: helps assess the risk of gout
• Rheumatoid factor: helps screen for possible rheumatoid arthritis
• Bone mineral density test: helps assess bone strength

These results may help doctors better understand the possible source of discomfort and provide more appropriate treatment or dietary advice.

Q3: How often should older adults have a health check?

A: Adults aged 65 or above are generally advised to have a comprehensive health check once a year. Those with chronic medical conditions may require follow-up every six months, depending on their doctor’s advice.
