The Female Advanced Hormone Tests is designed to assess a range of female hormones and help identify possible factors contributing to irregular menstrual cycles.

The screening includes several hormone tests, such as oestrogen-related hormones, progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone and other relevant markers. It also includes a transabdominal pelvic ultrasound to assess the reproductive organs and check for possible structural factors that may affect menstruation, such as ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids or other pelvic conditions.

Q1: Which day of the menstrual cycle is best for this test?

A: To assess baseline hormone levels more accurately, especially FSH and LH, it is recommended to have the test on day 2 to day 3 of the menstrual cycle.

If the test is performed outside this period, some hormone levels may fluctuate with the menstrual cycle and affect interpretation of the results.

Q2: Do I need to have a full bladder before a transabdominal pelvic ultrasound?

A: Yes. As this package uses a transabdominal pelvic ultrasound, you will usually need to have a full bladder before the scan.

A full bladder helps act as an acoustic window and moves the bowel away, allowing the doctor or sonographer to see the uterus and ovaries more clearly. This may help assess whether there are fibroids, cysts or polycystic changes.

You are advised to drink 3–4 glasses of water about 1 hour before the examination and avoid urinating before the scan.

Q3: Is this test suitable for women who have not had sexual intercourse?

A: Yes. This package uses a transabdominal pelvic ultrasound, where the ultrasound probe is moved over the lower abdomen rather than inserted into the vagina.

The examination is non-invasive and is suitable for women who have not had sexual intercourse. Our healthcare team will also take care to ensure your privacy and comfort during the process.

Q4: Do I need to fast before the hormone blood test?

A: Strict fasting is generally not required for the hormone tests included in this package, such as FSH, LH, prolactin, E2, progesterone and TSH.

You may eat and drink as usual. However, it is advisable to avoid a very oily meal before the blood test, as this may affect the quality of the blood sample.
