Elderly Mental Health Consultation (New Patient Assessment)
Geriatric & Late-Life Mental Health Clinic
As we age, major life transitions—such as retirement, bereavement, physical health changes, or shifts in living arrangements—can take a toll on emotional and cognitive well-being. It is common for older adults to notice changes in memory, mood, sleep, or daily routines.
Our Geriatric Mental Health Specialists provide comprehensive, empathetic, and evidence-based psychiatric assessments tailored for seniors. We look at the full picture—evaluating medical history, current medications, daily functioning, and cognitive health—to help patients and their families understand the root cause and navigate late-life challenges with confidence and dignity.
Areas of Concern We Evaluate
Our comprehensive initial assessment is designed for older adults experiencing:
- Memory & Cognitive Decline: Frequent forgetfulness, sudden confusion, or suspected mild cognitive impairment (MCI) / dementia
- Mood & Emotional Changes: Late-life depression, persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, or social withdrawal
- Anxiety & Distress: Excessive worry, restlessness, or emotional volatility
- Sleep Disturbances: Chronic insomnia, fragmented sleep, or altered sleep-wake cycles
- Behavioral & Personality Shifts: Irritability, agitation, uncharacteristic suspiciousness (paranoia), or hallucinations
- Life Transition Support: Emotional difficulties adjusting to illness, retirement, loss of a loved one, or changing care needs
- Caregiver & Family Concerns: Noticeable changes in daily functioning or safety noted by relatives or caregivers
Following the assessment, our psychiatrist will collaborate with the patient and family to design a holistic care plan. This may include formal cognitive testing, lifestyle adjustments, caregiver guidance, psychological support, medical monitoring, or targeted medication.
